People working in sport are well placed to recognize or receive concerns relating to the welfare of young people. They have a responsibility to respond to these concerns whether it relates to a child's family situation or concerns arising from their involvement in sport. It is important to note that most children do not share their concerns with adults and therefore rely on those adults they have contact with to be alert to the fact they may be experiencing problems in their lives.

 

If you do have concerns relating to a child's welfare is essential that you report these to the appropriate organisation or person. Listed on this page are some useful contacts where you can get further advice and discuss your concerns.

 

All sports organisations including voluntary clubs should have a designated child protection/welfare officer. They are the first point of contact if you have any concerns. Alternatively you can contact the sports National Governing Body.

 

If you want to talk over any concerns with someone outside your club/organisation you can contact the Child Protection in Sport Unit, NSPCC helpline or ChildLine. Alternately you can contact Staffordshire Social Services First Response Team.
