Consultation - Green Paper: Children And Young People With Special Educational Needs And Disabilities - Call For Views
On 10 September the Minister of State for Children and Families, Sarah Teather, invited views from everyone with an interest in services for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities in England.

 

All views and perspectives received will be considered as part of developing proposals for a Green Paper on SEN and disability to be published this autumn.

The consultation runs from 10 September 2010 – 15 October 2010

 The Royal Association for Disability Rights (RADAR) People of the Year Awards 2010
The annual 'People of the year' disability awards take place on 29 November and you have the opportunity to influence the panel by nominating those who you think need a bit of recognition for their hard work and talent.

Help us to find the best examples of inclusive practice, inspirational individuals and organisations that are making a real difference to disabled peoples’ lives, by telling us who you think should be nominated. Just let us know what category your suggestion is for, the name of the individual or organisation and why you think they deserve to be nominated.

There are 12 categories and some could fit work in sport and physical activity.

 

All nominations to be in by 30 September 2010.

Four Nations Disabled Badminton Championships 2011

Stoke Mandeville Stadium; the birthplace of Paralympic sport will be hosting the finals of the Four Nations Disabled Badminton Championships, 13-15 May 2011.

The Championships will be a series of tournaments; welcoming players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to play in a variety of categories including: wheelchair users, standing disabled players, dwarf players and players with intellectual disabilities. Denny Vettom, a member of Stoke Mandeville Stadium’s very own Phoenix Badminton Club, is one of the favourites for the gold medal in the Men’s W2 Wheelchair classification.

It is expected that over 120 competitors will enter the Championship in May, looking to boost their ranking in the last domestic event of the season before the World Parabadminton Championships being held in Guatemala, Central America in the autumn of 2011.

British Triathlon
Paratriathlon Introduction day, 16 October 2010, Loughborough University
British Triathlon is offering a fantastic opportunity to come and learn about this fast growing and exciting sport, whether you are new to disability sport or you are an experienced athlete in another sport already.

The Paratriathlon Introduction day aims to fast track you into getting involved with the sport in whatever capacity you wish.

All attendees will receive the following:

• A chance to learn about Paratriathlon
• Get to meet and train with the national Paratriathlon Performance Squad
• Receive a classification from of British Triathlons qualified classifiers, this means you will be given a competition class for entering future Paratriathlon events
• Receive a pack to take away full of useful and informative information including a full Paratriathlon guide and training plan for starting Paratriathlon
• All attendees will also receive a 50% discount into the 2011 Corus British Paratriathlon Championships

The Paratriathlon Introduction Day takes place on Saturday 16th October at Loughborough University between 10am and 4pm.

Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix dates and venues confirmed for 2010-11
The inaugural Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix Series ran last year after the rapid development of the Sitting Volleyball Centre Network. The competition culminated in East London Lynx beating F.D.S.W. Wales in the final that was played alongside the Standing Cup Finals at Crystal Palace in April.

The Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix Series was established for two main reasons:  

1) To provide a competition of focus for the emerging Sitting Volleyball Centre Network  

2)  To give the Great Britain players more competition and match practise on British soil

The Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix Series involves a number of individual competition days. The top four from these series then play off to produce two finalists. The finals in 2011 will be played alongside the annual National Cup Finals weekend.
