Landmark Programme launched for VI Cricket The ECB has launched a Visually Impaired Talent Development Programme to support the development of more international visually impaired cricketers.
The programme will play a vital role in bringing new players to the international fold and sets out a clear direction for player development over the next two years to help develop a competitive team for the blind Ashes in 2012.
One of the key elements of the programme is to give players experience of using the international ball, which is smaller and harder then the one used in the domestic game.
The ECB Visually Impaired Talent Development Programme will engage with a number of cricket and non-cricket partners to create a clear pathway to international cricket.
Chris Porter, head coach of the visually impaired squad, said: “The ECB Visually Impaired Talent Development Programme is an exciting development for blind cricket.
Have you got what it takes? Goalball UK is looking for the new sporting stars of the future.
Goalball is an exciting strategic game played by blind and visually impaired players. Having recently featured in the C4 Paralympic Show series all players wear shades and have to use their sense of touch and hearing to orientate themselves around a volleyball size court.
Following the success of the women’s squad out in Munich in 2009 where they became the youngest team ever to win gold at the European Championships. Goalball UK is now on the search for new talent, players who may be fast tracked into a youth squad ready for the Colorado games in 2011.
The first talent ID day will be Friday 10th December from 10am to 3.30pm at the New Vic College, Prince Regent Lane, Plaistow, London, E13 8SG.
Age 12 - 19.
