Aiming High News
G8way Halloween Family Fun Day
Saturday 30th October saw the launch of G8way in Newcastle. The event was held at Blackfriars Special School in Newcastle and it the theme was of course Halloween. All of the children who attended came in fancy dress and even some Mums and Dads!
The aim of the day was to launch G8way in Newcastle and to give families already known to G8way and potential new families the chance to try out a range of fun activities together.
Activities that children could take part in were;
Wildplay – with spooky boxes and pumpkin carving
Sublime Science – children made their own spooky slime and sweets
Gifted Workshops – provided a DJ workshop
Golf – workshops with a PGA Professional Coach
All That Sparkles – provided a balloon modeller, face painter and glitter tattoo artist
Circusology – circus skills workshop
Arts and Crafts
There were also a range of support agencies and local organisations present so that parents could get information and advice. This was also good for some of the organisations who have recently been commissioned by Aiming High, as they got to talk to families and promote what services they were offering within Staffordshire.
Organisations present were;
Caudwell Children
North Staffs Aspergers /Autism Association
The Princes Trust
Sleep Solutions
Parent Participation
North Staffs PCT – Speech and Language
Family Information Service
Kidsgrove, Clayton and Audley Community and Learning Partnership
Staffordshire Young Peoples Service
The day was attended by over 80 people and all had a fantastic time. Feedback forms were given to the families and all replies found the event useful and they would recommend a G8way funday to others and they would like to attend other fundays in the future.
Other feedback was;
“It was all good fun, the kids enjoyed themselves.”
“This was the most activity filled event I have attended.”
“This type of day is exactly what my child wants.”
“I had a really good time, the atmosphere seemed to be really positive and upbeat.”
Please keep checking the newsletter for details of other G8way events.
