What to do with half a Million quid?

Channel 4 were overwhelmed by a deluge of quality Half Million Quid Talent Search applications from wannabe presenters of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The selection process was nothing short of brutal, but having sifted the flotsam from the jetsam, we can now reveal that Alex Brooker, George Crofton, Rachael Latham, Arthur Vaughan Williams, Daraine Mulvihill, Ben McBean, Alaw Fflur, Liam Holt, Tania Nadarajh, Eamonn Prunty, Vicky Malin and Martin Dougan rocked our worlds the most.

England Athletics Launch Disability Plan

England Athletics launched its Disability Action Plan at the National Coaching Conference at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in december 2010. Among those present to support the launch were Paralympic gold medallists Danny Crates and Noel Thatcher

The Action Plan is designed be totally integrated and aligned to the England Athletics core development strategy for 2009 – 2013.

It identifies the additional positive actions, partnership working and culture change needed to ensure that the England Athletics mission, priorities and goals can be truly achieved for all athletes. It also clearly demonstrates the shared responsibility and understanding needed across the whole sport as everyone who is involved in athletics is involved in disability athletics.

National Disability Club and Coach Support Officer Helen Pearce said, “Our vision for disability athletics is to develop an informed, educated and inclusive athletics community and create a clear pathway to ensure that disabled people are supported to participate, progress and perform in athletics.”

The guiding principles of the Disability Athletics Action Plan are:

• To ensure all England Athletics programmes and activities are fully inclusive and integrated wherever possible and that disability perspectives are included as a core consideration at the start of all new projects
• To develop knowledge and understanding through provision of appropriate support, advice, information & guidance
• To ensure potential barriers and challenges to participation are identified and overcome
• To work in partnerships with key external organisations
• To ensure that pathways & opportunities for disabled athletes are clearly articulated
• Specific and integrated opportunities for disabled athletes to be promoted as appropriate with links to clubs, coaching opportunities and pathways clearly defined
