New Partnership Enables Consumers to Access More Sports Information ‘On the Move’
DisabledGo, the Leisure Database Company and Splashpath have teamed up to create a unique partnership with the aim of empowering more disabled people to take part in sports by providing them with searchable sports facility information ‘on the move’.
This new partnership will deliver more powerful consumer information through Splashpath, the newly launched iPhone app, about where, when and how to take part in sport, combined with full disabled access information to the different facilities.
DisabledGo provides online access information to public venues across the UK and Ireland and has produced information for over 80,000 venues across the UK and Ireland by working with Local Authorities, Universities, Colleges, NHS Trusts and Leisure Trusts.
Splashpath is a rapidly growing, free to use, iphone app and website which promotes swimming through the publishing of timetables at swimming pools. Splashpath was launched in mid August 2010 and already has over 5,000 registered users, 4,674 UK pools listed. To-date, Splashpath has 8% of public swimming pool sites using Splashpath to publish their timetables. Splashpath was created by KinKub and is powered by sports facility data maintained by The Leisure Database Company.
The Leisure Database Company (TLDC) collects and maintains the most comprehensive database of sports facilities throughout the UK on behalf of Sport England. TLDC maintains sports facility information on 30,000 sites across the UK encompassing twelve core indoor sports activities and 16 outdoor sports facilities played on grass pitches.
David Minton, director of The Leisure Database Company stated, ‘We are delighted to be opening up public access to our sports facility information and enhancing it with disability access information from DisabledGo. We believe this partnership which will grow as further synergies are developed.’ Anna Borthwick, Head of Business Development and Marketing at DisabledGo commented, ‘we are passionate about improving access to sport and leisure opportunities for disabled people. This exciting partnership demonstrates how access information can easily be incorporated into resources. Splashpath is a fantastic application and we are thrilled to be part of it.’
Dan Morgan, developer of the Splashpath app added, ‘Splashpath will also be enriched with the data links to DisabledGo’s access guide, informing consumers of all the disabled access facilities available at swimming pool sites, initially, throughout the UK.’
Desperately seeking swimmers!!
We still have places left for this year's Great North Swim. This fantastic event takes place in Lake Windermere against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District National Park. This event was recently voted the world's fifth best open water swim, so you really couldn't ask for a better place to take a dip! Swimmers of all abilities will join thousands of others for this mile long open water swim, so you don't have to have fins to take part!
We are looking for people to join our CP Sport swim team on Sat 18 and Sun 19 June and raise sponsorship for CP Sport. Places cost £30 each and we are asking our swimmers to aim to raise £150 in sponsorship.
