Aiming High for Disabled Children and their Families in Staffordshire
Opportunity to Apply for Short Breaks Funding 2011
Aiming High in Staffordshire will soon be launching an opportunity to apply for funding to deliver short break services.
What are Short Breaks?
Short breaks form part of a continuum of services, which support disabled children and their families. Short breaks:
Provide enjoyable experiences for disabled children and young people. This may be away from their primary carers, with other disabled children, with siblings or as a family.
Contribute to personal and social development and reduce isolation.
Provide valuable breaks for parents and families from their caring responsibilities.
Opportunities include day, evening, overnight and weekend activities which take place in a child’s own home, the home of an approved carer, in the community or in a residential setting.
Are flexible in duration and range from two hours to a few days or occasionally longer depending upon the needs of children and their families.
The funding is for:
1. Short Break Activities
Many activities can be classed as short break activities, including but not exclusively the following:
Youth clubs, sport and leisure activities, outings, holiday playschemes, community activities like scouts and brownies, horse riding, clubs, arts and culture.
Staffordshire County Council would like to receive tenders for short break services offering a range of different short break activities and recreational activities, across Staffordshire.
2. A Support Service
The Support Service will involve two elements.
Sitting Service – a Sitting Service provided in the disabled child or young person’s own home as a base for activities.
Community Support Service – a befriending and mentoring service supporting disabled children and young people to access activities in the community.
Target Group
Services funded will be for Staffordshire disabled children and young people up to the age of 18 years old.
