RGK TCAT Rhinos did the double at this year’s National Championship Finals, which was held at the EIS Sheffield on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May, with both their Super League and First Division team coming away with Silverware.
In the Super League RGK TCAT Rhinos topped off another successful season to claim the Super League Cup after a hard fought victory over Tameside Owls, to put alongside their Super League title. Whilst their second team fought off stiff competition from Sheffield Steelers third team in an all northern Division One Final to claim the top spot.
Division Two Play off’s it was an all southern final which saw fierce rivalry between Cardiff Celts and Bury Bombers, who had already met each other twice during the season in very close encounters. In a thrilling match it was Cardiff Celts who came out on top by just 4 points, 54 – 50 to become champions of Division Two. Third/fourth play off Leicester Cobras saw off Leeds Spiders to finish third overall.
Third Division Play Off saw top from the north, central and south compete in a round robin for the Third Division Title. A strong Percy Hedley Eagles 2 team overcame central winners Crusaders Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA) 48 -40 and went on to beat Maidstone Rebels later on the Saturday 67 – 51 to win the league title. Leaving Maidstone Rebel and CWBA to fight it out for second and third place on the Sunday morning, CWBA just edged second place winning 52 -44.
The FSB Women’s League Finals also took place on the weekend, and it was newly formed team Eastern Blue Stars who toppled Capital City from their 7 year domination of the women’s league to be crowned champions.
