Strategic Priorities for Including Disabled People in and Through Coaching, Learning and Leadership in the UK 2011 - 2013
A Paper has been developed by the UK Disability Sport Coaching, Learning & Leadership (UKDSCLL) Group which represents a collective UK approach to disability sport-related issues, policies and opportunities for disabled people. The group members are all four Home Nation Disability Sport Organisations, sports coach UK, Sports Leaders UK and Youth Sport Trust.

The paper outlines a vision for sports coaching underpinned by a commitment to provide education, development and delivery opportunities that seamlessly include disabled children, athletes and players. We want more disabled people to feel included and valued through sports coaching. We also want more coaches to feel confident with their ability to effectively deliver to disabled communities. As a way of working towards this vision specific recommendations and actions are identified that inform The UK Coaching Framework.

Wheelchair Tag Officially Recognised

Wheelchair Tag Rugby League has been officially recognised as a discipline of Rugby League this week by the five UK Sports Councils.

The RFL has been recognised as the National Governing Body for the version by Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Wales, sportscotland and UK Sport in a move which will greatly aid in its development.

David Gent, the RFL’s Director of Participation and Strategic Partnerships, said: “We’re delighted that the five Sports Councils have recognised Wheelchair Rugby League as an official discipline of the sport.

“This development will help the continuing growth of the version of the sport as we look to introduce more and more people to Rugby League.

“We’ve seen remarkable growth within Wheelchair Rugby League since England won the World Cup in 2008 with new teams forming and interest from across the UK. Now that the discipline has been officially recognised I’m sure we will attract even more athletes to take part.
