Activities Across SASSOT Last year we launched our ACTIVITIES Across SASSOT Physical Activity Fund and we have the opportunity to repeat the grants again this year.
As last year, up to a £1000 is available to each CSPAN/Local Authority area to co-ordinate an application(s).
Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, the County Sports Partnership for the sub-region is committed to working proactively with our Community Sport and Physical Activity Networks (CSPANs) to effectively plan and co-ordinate local programmes and investment to deliver physical activity and active recreation alongside sport.

‘ACTIVITIES across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent’ is a small fund available to CSPANs and their partners to encourage and support the development of new projects that target an increase in physical activity among those over 16 years of age.
Any activities / interventions should contribute towards the new physical activity guidelines:
Application & Eligibility Criteria The ACTIVITIES Across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Fund of £9000 is to be divided
Where there is not a functioning CSPAN, representatives from the Local Authority, the
Payments can be made to each successful organisation that is responsible for the delivery of the outputs and outcomes of the project. The funding cannot be used to fund individuals.
Funding can be provided to support and develop new physical activity projects,
Sport-specific projects can be accepted but the emphasis MUST be on participation
The fund is for delivery and development costs, and cannot support facility or capital
The Process Application forms should be returned electronically prior to/and no later than Friday 11th November 2011 to the central address at the bottom of this sheet. Any unused funds after this date will be re-distributed into other areas, for projects, which will promote ‘increasing physical activity’.
SASSOT along with the local CSPAN (or where there is no CSPAN, SASSOT along with a Local authority and a PCT representative) will decide which project(s) from each area will be put forward.
The Partnership Director and Physical Activity Board Champion will then sign off projects.
If your project is in one of the following active CSPAN areas there may be a slightly different decision making process and it is advisable discuss your project with the appropriate local authority officer below and check their deadline and decision making dates:

The closing date is 11th November and all the applications will come in to the SASSOT office to me. I will then forward all the applications for your area and be involved in the decision making CSPAN meeting.
Where there is not a CSPAN, the Local Authority and the PCT along with SASSOT will meet and consider which application(s) should be put forward from your area .
As last year the board champion will offer a final check and challenge on applications.
Last year we had some innovative and interesting projects which will be highlighted at the next SDO Forum on 13th September, a one line summary is as follows:
Cannock: Project to offer health referrals to a new 'No Strings' Badminton course. Excellent partnership working between NGB, Local Authority and PCT.
East Staffordshire: Project delivered with Staffs Young People's Service and Burton Canoe Club to offer youth activities on a Friday night. Initial interest stimulated from a youth community games in a deprived neighbourhood.
Lichfield: Project to encourage local student population to become more physically active by using a voucher system to track and incentivise usage.
Newcastle-under-Lyme: This dance & fitness project targeted women and girls from low socio economic groups based in wards where women have a lower life expectancy than men according to the Active People survey
Stafford Borough Council: 3 separate workplace health activity sessions have been funded each lasting 10-12 weeks.
Stoke-on-Trent: Project to increase participation among over 16's in areas that contain high ethnic populations. 2 volunteers recruited, 1 of whom is now a paid employee for Ministry 4 Sport
Tamworth: Project to fund a bank of equipment that will facilitate physical activity sessions (e.g. boccia, ramps, floor basketball) that can be used at a range of existing social sessions used by disability groups.
