Supporting Disabled Children – e-Learning Opportunities
Three e-learning packages are available to staff, third sector organisations and parents and carers who want to develop their skills and knowledge regarding supporting disabled children, young people and their families.
The courses available are:
Safeguarding Children with Disabilities This course contains the overview of the national and local agendas in relation to children with disabilities, basic knowledge of the range of protection needs of disabled children and information on how you can enable them to communicate about their experiences and provide support. Content includes:
Short Breaks for Disabled Children The e-learning module has been designed to provide the learner with an increased understanding of the role of short breaks and the role of the short break worker. Areas covered include:
Introduction to Autism This e-learning module aims to provide learners with a basic awareness of the autism spectrum and help to dispel many of the myths associated with the condition. On completion learners will have an increased awareness of the main characteristics of behaviour which children on the autism spectrum can commonly display, as well as an understanding of the strategies available to support these. Areas covered include:
All the courses are ideal for everyone who comes into contact with children, young people, their parents or carers through their work in either the statutory or voluntary or independent sector and are endorsed by Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board.
Cost If you are a contributing member of the Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB), a parent or carer, or from a local voluntary or charitable organisation the training is free. For some of the modules there may be a charge for independent organisations. Duration All of the courses take between 2 or 3 hours depending on your learning pace. You do not have to do the packages in ‘one go’ but can take the module in convenient stages and revisit when you wish.
Certification On completion of each the courses you will be able to print a Virtual College certificate.
How to access the E learning The training is hosted by Virtual College, one of the UK's leading e-learning colleges. The courses have been developed in partnership with Staffordshire Safeguarding Board and Staffordshire County Council Short Breaks service (Aiming High).
