Whizz-kidz Wheelchair Skills Training Course

Stafford Borough Council’s Sports Development team in partnership with the charity Whizz-kidz are holding a wheelchair skills training course in the summer holidays and we want you to join us!
Are you in a wheelchair?
Are you under the aged of 18?
Would you like to learn new skills and have great fun on a three day course in the school summer holidays?
If the answer to these questions is yes then we have just the course for you! Stafford Borough Council’s Sports Development team in partnership with the charity Whizz-kidz is putting on a wheelchair skills course designed to help improve your wheelchair skills in a fun and enjoyable way.
Wheelchair Skills Training is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and have fun with other young wheelchair users in your area. You will be taught important skills according to your needs including spatial awareness, manoeuvring techniques and road safety skills. Our trainers are excellent role models and all have lots of experience and knowledge about wheelchairs; many of them are full time wheelchair users.

The English Federation for Disability Sport (EFDS)West Midlands has been successful in applying for a grant from the Access to Volunteering (AtV)Fund which is about looking at offering special needs people of all ages from 14 onwards opportunities to work in a volunteer capacity at sporting and leisure events ,in clubs or other organisations where volunteers are in use, with appropriate training being delivered to support the work of the
volunteer within the context of their placement and also looking at progression routes for people both in other voluntary opportunities but also in the potential to acquire recognised qualifications following the initial phase of placement and training.
EFDS West Midlands is looking to offer 12-15 special needs people an opportunity to work as a volunteer at the World Wheelchair Championships at the NIA in Birmingham from July 7th to 18th as part of the AtV project in the region and individuals or groups who would be interested in being a volunteer at this exciting event in Birmingham where the worlds greatest wheelchair basketball athletes will be performing, should

Individuals or groups who are interested in participating outside of the NIA event should also contact Kevin to discuss other volunteer opportunities that may exist.
Creative Dance Workshops
3.30pm – 5.00pm (term-time)
(classes start once everyone has arrived from their school)
Monday – Heathfield Special School, Chell Heath
Tuesday – Blackfriars Special School, Newcastle-under-Lyme
Wednesday – Leek High School, Leek
Thursday – Kemball Special School, Fenton
The workshops are open to disabled and non-disabled children and young people who are aged between 5 – 16 years. Class fee £1
The West Midlands region is once again organising a Canoe Tour along the River Severn from Arley to Bewdley (approx 4 miles) for those who have a disability or special needs.
The tour is free to anyone that falls into this category and coaches and staff from the region will be on hand to guide and lead groups down the river. You can take part in the event in either canoes or kayaks, which will be supplied, free of charge, all you need to do is get there.
Once finished why not make a day of it and get the steam train back to the start and your vehicle.
We have not got the Bellboats this year so spaces will be limited and possibly on a first come first served basis, please book early.
