Disability Cricket Match smashes the boundaries Aston Cricket Club staged their first ever disability match on Saturday morning where St Georges Cricket Club from Telford were our guests. Aston team was a mixture of 13/14 year olds pictured and managed to win the game by a very close margin of 5 runs. The competition was played under pair's rules giving all the opportunity to bat and bowl. The two teams pictured and were introduced to Ian Parry, Deputy Leader of The Staffordshire County Council and Lead Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. Ian commented how important it was that matches like this should be organised and thanked Aston Cricket Club for their efforts. There is another match arranged as a return game which will be played at St Georges later in the summer.
Further playing opportunities for Female Disabled Footballers Staffordshire FA has been able to support the running a Girls 4 v 4 Special Schools League at the Powerleague, Stoke. The Initiative is to get more females playing football in a comfortable environment whilst realising the challenges of schools making 7-aside teams.
The Staffordshire FA’s 4v4 Special Schools Girls League has recently ended after 5 rounds of fixtures in which teams take part, last year the league produced an opportunity for approx 35 girls to play football in an environment where they feel more comfortable as there were no male intimidations. The league has provided a lot of enjoyment for the players, excitement for the spectators, plenty of quality football and goals galore and high levels of quality as the standard continues to increase.
The league is open to all special schools at each fixture date to allow more girls to participate throughout the months.
After the positive response received from players, supporters and teachers alike we are planning to run the Girls 4v4 League annually which will hopefully increase the number of female participation in Disability Football, whether it’s refereeing, administering or playing and offering further opportunities on the FA’s Disability Player Pathway
If you are a female wanting to get involved in Disability Football or you require more information please contact Jamie Leaning on 01785 256994, 07816536446 or jamie.leaning@staffordshirefa.com
Ability Counts League AGM 2010 Staffordshire Football Association is happy to announce that they are continuing to run a Disability Football League for the forthcoming season 10/11. All interested clubs are invited to attend the meeting where the format of the league will be discussed.
The league, the only one of its kind in the County caters for both Adult and Junior players. The junior sections will be at u12 & u16 age groups. Within Disability Football you can play within a 4 year age banding for example age 10 – 14. The league is a PAN Disability League however Wheel/Powerchairs and Blind Footballers can only be catered for within impairment specific teams due to the format of their respective games.
It is proposed the league will run monthly on a Sunday and all fixtures will be played at a central venue in Staffordshire thanks to funding provided by The FA. If there is enough interest both male and female leagues could be run.
The meeting for the proposed league will take place on Monday 5th July 2010 at 7.30pm and will be held at Staffordshire FA headquarters.
“The league will provide all footballers with a disability/impairment in and around Staffordshire the opportunities to play football locally like their mainstream counterparts” stated Jamie Leaning, Disability Community Sports Coach. “The emphasis of the league is to have fun in a competitive environment and to show that football is inclusive to all.”

Good and Bad for Rudyard Sailability First the good news! Rudyard Sailability, in partnership with British Waterways and Rudyard Lake Limited, has been granted planning permission to build a fully accessible boat store and changing facility on the site of the current store. I am sure that you will join me in thanking and congratulating all those involved in this lengthy and testing process, especially our masterful “Dream Team” made up of Mike Sutcliffe, Anne Morris, Charlotte Atkins, Steve Sammons and Dennis Priebe.
The Charity’s ultimate goal will be to have our new home ready for the start of next season, Easter 2011. This is quite a monumental task in this tough financial climate, so we will have to dig even deeper for support, so any suggestions that you may have would be most welcome.
Now for the bad news. In spite of the support of Councillors Lovatt, Worthington and Bowen, (and previously Cheveau), the majority of the Planning Committee voted against an extension to the Enforcement Notice on our building which means that our present home will be demolished on 21st July 2010. This represents another tall order for Rudyard Sailability, but with the help of our motivated Members, valiant Volunteers, and super Supporters and Sponsors, we are determined to see the season through to the end of September. The finer details are to be worked out with our partners at the Lake, but the first challenge will be to continue with our usual activities, without causing any inconvenience to other users and residents. The other challenge is to find safe and secure storage for our fleet until our new accommodation is ready. Once again, we would appreciate any help that you can offer.
We thank you for loyal commitment to Rudyard Sailability and invite you to stay with us on the next exciting stage of our journey to a ‘flagship’ new base for our Club.
More than ever, ‘We couldn’t do it without you!’
Best wishes
Jackie Griffiths Secretary Rudyard Sailability
