The 'Closing The Gap Project' in Stoke-on-Trent has been selected as one of 7 finalists for the Muncipal Journal Annual Awards in the 'Promoting Active Communities Achievement of the Year' category .  The finalists will be announced in a glossy supplement which will go out with this weeks issue of the MJ.  The winner will be announced on the 28th june at a Gala dinner at the Hilton Hotel in London.

Andrew Heaward, Project Manager commented that "regardless of if we win or not it is a fantastic achievement to reach this
stage in a prestigious national awards programme and we have now earned the right to use a MJ finalist logo for the next 12 months on our publications etc".

The other finalists are:

  • Cardiff CC -BME leisure project.
  • Chorley BC - Get up & Go Programme (young people)
  • East Hampshire DC - Get Active (generic physical activity)
  • Newcastle CC - Year of Exercise and Sport 2006 initiative.
  • Sefton MBC - Active Workforce Project
  • Windsor & Maidenhead RBC - So Much Improvement with So little Exercise (SMILE) campaign (older people)

Interestingly subsequent to the submission of the entry form we have now completed our final evaluation of the social care pilot project and this more than confirms the initial findings set out in the application.  For a copy of the report please click here
