SASSOT awarded the Intermediate Level of the National Safeguards in Sport Standards
Following a comprehensive assessment of its work in safeguarding children SASSOT has been awarded the Intermediate Level of the National Safeguarding Standards by the CPSU (Child Protection in Sport Unit). This award is the culmination of more than 12 months hard work by the Partnership and is a real milestone highlighting the progress we are making in this important area of work. In order to achieve this award the Partnership had to demonstrate a good level of competence across a number of areas including prevention, education and training, providing advice and influencing partners.
The CPSU were very complimentary about the standard of the safeguarding work in Staffordshire and praised the robust policies and procedures being put into place. It should be noted that this achievement is a reflection of the effort put in by the wider Partnership and not just the core team. The CPSU singled out the commitment in Staffordshire to Partnership working and sharing resources and good practice as particular area of strength of the Partnership.
SASSOT was one of the first CSP’s to achieve the Intermediate Level in the region which highlighting that we are at the forefront of safeguarding children in sport. The Partnership will now be working towards the Advanced Level of the Standards and seeking further engagement with the Local Safeguarding Children’s Boards to continue ensure everyone in sport is contributing to making is safer and more accessible to young people.

As part of the Partnership’s Club Development Strategy, it was agreed that the majority of this funding would be used to support school-club links across the sub-region via the School Sport Partnerships. This funding will be used to set up new and innovative activities and to support and compliment existing provision, with the aim of increasing participation by young people in community-based sport.

Staffordshire Coach DatabaseCoaches are invited to register on the Staffordshire Coach Database. This is open to all coaches, living or working in the Staffordshire area, who have met a set of minimum operating criteria. The database will be searchable by schools and Local Authorities, to help them fill coaching vacancies within their organisations. Details of registered coaches will be held on an on-line database which will be searchable by registered schools and Local Authority Sports Development Officers, to help them fill coaching vacancies within their organisations. The list will not be a central employment system and coach details will be issued on the understanding that employers will still be responsible for following good employment practice when recruiting coaches from the list. As well as the benefit of enhanced employment opportunities, registered Coaches will receive advice and improved access to training. They will also qualify for a discount at events such as the Staffordshire Coaching Conference. The database will "go live" in September 2007, however we would like to invite coaches to apply as soon as possible.
