Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

Clubs and Schools link together

Pupils across the Cheadle area got the chance to meet and try new sports in a unique event held by the Staffordshire Moorlands School Sports Partnership at the new sports hall for Cheadle schools.

The aim of the event was to promote and encourage children of all ages to take up sports and become more physically active. Over 20 different sports were represented on the evening all promoting their clubs in the area and offering places for children to come along and have a go.

The event, which was coordinated by the school sport coordinators from Painsley Catholic High and Cheadle High Schools and sponsored by the Cheadle Community and Learning Partnership, attracted over 400 people who could take part in activities such as climbing, sailing, football, archery, Taekwon-Do and netball over the course of the evening.

Liz Stonier the Partnership Development Manager said “The event was a huge success and hopefully this will encourage more pupils to join local clubs and also local clubs to link with the schools.”

The evening was part of a wider scheme to encourage sports clubs to link with schools in the area in a bid to support schools with their own sports and also to increase the numbers of pupils joining clubs and taking part in sport outside of school.
