Introducing the new Staffordshire Basketball Development Officer
Jo Arnold is the new Staffordshire Basketball Development Officer. Funded by England Basketball and employed by SASSOT, Jo's role will involve increasing participation in basketball and developing the sub-region's club structure.
This is an exciting development for basketball as it is the first time the sub-region has had a development officer for the sport.
Jo's background is in Sports Development and for many years as a player. After studying Sports Development and Coaching and MMU Cheshire University, Jo moved into her former role as StreetGames Officer at Stoke-on-Trent City Council before combining her passion for developing sport and love of basketball.
Jo moved from a local Stoke team to National level and participated with the England development team for a few seasons. After being elected as Chairwoman for the, then premier division, MMU Cheshire, Jo completed her Level 2 basketball coaching certificate and volunteered for different community groups.
In her new role, her overall aim is to get more people in Staffordshire participating in basketball again or for the first time. Her focus will be on young people and schools, increasing the amount of accredited clubs and to create and sustain links between the schools and clubs. Other roles will include increasing the number of competitions provided within the County outside of schools, increasing the number of qualified coaches as well as developing the number
of accredited referees and table officials.
If you require any information or assistance with regards to basketball in Staffordshire, then please do not hesitate to contact Jo on 07800 619605.
Please keep an eye on the SASSOT website for basketball updates in Staffordshire.
