Stafford and Stone take on
Sixty-two year 5&6 pupils, from four primary schools, took part in the first school based Quicksticks Hockey competition held at Walton High School.
Local young pupils showed their hockey skills in a competition organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership.
Despite the weather sixty-two pupils from Oakridge, St Pauls, Berkswich and Barnfields primary schools played 42 competitive games on netball courts at the end of March.
Schools and teachers had the opportunity beforehand to practise their skills and learn more about Quicksticks with equipment and a teaching course funded by the partnership.
Cannock Hockey Club provided a club link for any pupil wishing to take up hockey after the partnership competition.
Overall winners were Oakridge A, runners-up went to Oakridge C, and both teams will now go onto the County Final in July.
7 school teams and leaders brave the rain to play Quicksticks
Walton High School provided referees who helped the pupils with their skills throughout the competition and kept score.
“This competition is new to the partnership and the county. Hopefully next year, the number of schools taking part will increase resulting in an even bigger competition” said Nick Richards, Competition Manager.

Young Leaders Deliver Special Needs Team Challenge Event
A group of 16 Young Leaders from Year 10, at Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School, were instrumental in the running of the Sportshall Team Challenge for children with Special Needs at Aldersley Stadium, in March.
Four schools from 4 different School Sport Partnerships across the West Midlands Region competed in the event. The schools competing were Wightwick Hall, Westcroft, Hednesford Valley and Southall Special Schools.
The Year 10 leaders developed an excellent rapport with the children and staff from the special schools expressed their delight in seeing leaders work so closely with all the pupils.
“South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership would like to thank Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School, the PE department and Steve Rushton for providing excellent leaders to help run a very successful event” said Nick Richards, Competition Manager (South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership).
