Aiming High: Disability Sport and Physical Activity

 

Disabilit-e News provides information about what is happening within the county, nationally and in the elite world of disability sport. It will also advertises courses, clubs, events and success stories to motivate and inspire.There is also a dedicated section on Aiming High and the good work it is doing to promote activity based short breaks for disabled children and families.

Coaching the Whole Child

Tuesday 17 May 2011 at Dudson Centre Stoke

• Understanding traditional model of coaching and learning based on the development of participants’ technical, tactical, physical, mental and social competencies
• Describe the 5Cs model of positive development in sport
• Understand the interaction between the development of participant competencies and the 5Cs, to produce positive personal and social development as a specific coaching outcome
• Apply the 5Cs model to current practice across Active Start, FUNdamental and Learning to Play and Practice phases of participant development

Positive Behaviour Management in Sport

Monday 13 June 2011 at Stafford Leisure Centre, Stafford

• It will support coaches by identifying a range of practical ideas to deal with behavior in sport and a coaching environment in a positive light.
• It will help coaches to recognize what creates a positive coaching environment and the actions they need to take that will encourage acceptable behavior.
• It will help you to understand and apply strategies to deal with challenging behavior.

Safeguard and Protect Children 2: Reflect and Practice

This follows Safeguard and Protecting Children SPC1

Safeguard and Protect Children SPC1 - This workshop ensures you are updated with the latest legislation around protecting children and yourself.    

• Actively promote a positive and child-centered coaching environment using key principals of relevant codes of conduct/practice
• Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current national legislation
• Recognise, respond and make informed decisions about safeguarding children
• Consider a seven-step approach to assist when decision making
• Respond appropriately to a disclosure or a concern

Moving On

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent were sorry to say goodbye to their admin assistant Elaine Cuirrier at the end of March.

 

Elaine had been with the Partnership, on a part-time basis, since July 2009 and during that time had done some tremendous work supporting the SASSOT team and producing this e-newsletter.

 

SASSOT send Elaine their thanks and best wishes for the future.

 

Welcome Back

Catherine Pendlebury is due to return from her maternity leave on 27th April. SASSOT and South Staffordshire Athletics Network (SSAN) look forward to Cath returning and continuing her role as SSAN Coordinator.
