Girls Get Active in Stafford and Stone
Over the past 20 weeks groups of girls in Stafford and Stone have been taking part in a variety of Street Dance sessions. The sessions organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership and led by Lucie Talbott from Dance Nuvo, culminated with a performance at Stafford Sports College this week (4-8 April).
The evening was a huge success and a packed audience saw 16 dance performances from Blessed William Howard, Weston Road High, Stafford Sports College, Christ Church Middle, Alleyne’s High, Sir Graham Balfour and King Edward VI. Each performance was linked to an Olympic and Paralympic value.
Two first class solo singers also entertained the audience along with Olympic inspirational DVDs. Staffordshire Olympic Coordinator Chris Kirkland attended the evening and was thrilled with the evening’s events.
The “Girls Active” groups in Stafford and Stone will also be taking part in this year’s Race for Life at the county showground. On Tuesday 12 July, 150 girls will descend upon Stafford Sports College for an afternoon of dance mats, trampolining and climbing. They will be accompanied by Olympic Badminton medallist Gail Emms. Following the afternoon's activities all the girls, along with Gail Emms will be
taking part in the Race for Life at Staffordshire County Showground. It is hoped many other girls from others Girls Active groups across the regions will join them here.

Partnership Development Manager, Stephen Glover said, “The dance project was a huge success. Well over 150 girls were involved the project and the standard of performance was exceptional. The schools and parents should be very proud of the girls who took part. All the girls are very excited to follow on from the dance project to take part in the Race for Life. We also very honoured to have Olympic Silver Medalist Gail Emms join us for
the entire day.”
