Staffordshire FA Girls' and Women’s Football Week
From the 1st - 12th April 2011, the Staffordshire Football Association held a Girls' and Women’s Football Week. The week involved a number of activities and events across the County where female players of all ages were able to get involved.
During the week a number of schools competitions, club and college festivals, a new women’s football centre was launched and the Staffordshire FA Girls Under 18s County Cup Final was held. Many new and current players, coaches and volunteers were all involved in the week and the week overall provided the opportunity for many more girls to get involved in football locally.
Also as part of the week's events, Walsall Football Club and Port Vale Football Club helped us to celebrate the week by holding celebration events at their home matches against Brentford and Southend United. The football clubs have supported the Staffordshire FA with the events and invited all of the girls' and women’s teams along to the matches. They also organised for a number of girls to take penalties on the pitch at half time. The Staffordshire FA also ran a ‘design a kit’ competition and gave the chance to two girls to be the mascots at either game.
The development of girls' and women’s football is a key priority of the Staffordshire FA’s football programme, working with clubs, leagues, schools, coaches, volunteers and many more people to increase and sustain the opportunities available on a regular basis. We are always keen to identify new opportunities and projects to support the development of clubs.
We have also recently put together a new Girls' & Women’s newsletter. To view the newsletter, please follow this link and also see some photo’s from the Girls' and Women’s Football Week.
