The IFI seminars cover a wide range of topics including marketing, creating successful partnerships, accessibility within fitness suites and staff training with the overall objective being how and why creating an accessibilty fitness suite can benefit users.

BHFNC 8th Annual Conference
18th November 2008
East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham

This years conference aims to provide practical examples, solutions and guidance on how to engage the following inactive communities in physical activity:

  • Older adults
  • Young girls and women
  • BME communities
  • Socially deprived communities
  • People with disabilities
  • People with mental ill health

Keynote speakers include: 

Professor Margaret Whitehead (W.H. Duncan Professor of Public Health and Head of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Policy Research on Social Determinants of Health, University of Liverpool), Dr Melvyn Hillsdon (Senior Lecturer, Department of Exercise, Nutrition and Health Science, University of Bristol) and Professor Jeff French (Director of the National Social Marketing Centre).

Mencap Sport

Mencap Sport Newsletter

There are 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK. Most are treated as 'different' and do not have the same control over their own lives as the rest of our society. That's why Mencap is here.

Mencap Sport wants to help more people with a learning disability enjoy and take part in sport. There is a quarterly Newsletter containing all the lastest news and competition information.

Voluntary posts available

Mencap Sport promotes sport for people with a learning disability in England, working in partnership with the National Governing Bodies and other sports providers.

Additionally, we manage an extensive annual programme of national championship events and a support programme for gifted and talented athletes training towards INAS-FID European and World competition. These programmes are entirely delivered by volunteers.

New Distance Learning Course

Physical Activity for Children & Young People with Long-Term Medical Conditions 

This innovative course has been developed for P.E teachers & other activity leaders wishing to improve their knowledge of common medical conditions that may cause concern during PE lessons, physical activity sessions & recess.

 

The course will provide participants with:

  • Information about diabetes, asthma & obesity
  • The knowledge and skills to adapt P.E. lessons & physical activity sessions
  • A comprehensive resource pack which includes practical physical activity ideas & parental  advice sheets

The course has been developed by the BHF National Centre for Physical Activity and Health, based at Loughborough University, and Loughborough College.
