Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

Sporting Champions - new allocation of 225 FREE visits

As always the criteria for the scheme remains the same, the aim is to increase participation, develop school and club links and promote leadership and volunteering. From extensive feedback, Sporting Champions say the best way to do this is through interaction with the Champion i.e. question and answer sessions, coaching, demonstrations and motivational talks.

CSPs are now able to nominate schools to receive visits, however, please note that these visits must be related to work that will support either the placement of young volunteers into the community (Step into Sport) or signpost young people to clubs (Club Links).

Visits work on an open allocation and a first-come-first-served basis. The visit must:

  • Be linked to on-going plans to increase participation amongst young people in community sport
  • Encourage/trigger long-term sports development opportunities

Please note the scheme's age range is up to 25 and that they do not support award ceremonies.

If you would like to apply for a visit, please complete the application form and return it to Leigh Morton.

If your application is for a Sporting Champion to attend an event that is part of your Extending Activities programme, please indicate this on the form. Sporting Champions have set aside a number of visits within the 225 available and are particularly keen to support it and to receive case studies from the visit.

Remember, all the Champions are willing and able to get involved with the young people. WE know they are VIPs, but THEY want to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in!

SHARING GOOD PRACTICE

For more ideas on how Champion visits can be used and to see the impact a Champion can have at an event, check out their case studies online. They are awalys looking to build on these studies and if you have any events you think would make a good example, please contact them. You can view case studies here http://www.sportingchampions.org.uk/sc2/media.php.
