Newcastle Town Netball Club win Nextgen West Midlands Club of the Year thanks to SASSOT Coach Scholarship funding

 

 

The Nextgen Award is presented to an organisation (e.g. club, county, school or university), which has made an outstanding contribution to developing, training and supporting their new and young netball volunteers.

 

 

 

 

Newcastle Town has an extremely effective recruitment process for both new and young volunteers, commencing at year 6 and upwards. Testament to this fact is the number of volunteers who have become qualified in this season alone, including 10 new volunteers, 4 new qualified level 1 coaches and 2 new qualified level 2 coaches.

 

The support provided for these new volunteers stems from an experienced infrastructure within the club, who are always on hand to assist, giving practical and moral support. Training commences within the club for young volunteers, encouraging players to lead on warm ups, followed by leading sessions under the guidance of qualified level 2 and 3 coaches. Youngsters are then supported to progress to coaching and umpiring within the junior county leagues.

 

Volunteers are recognised through newsletters and the club ensure that all costs for courses are met by funding applications so no cost is born by the club member.

 

SASSOT has been vital in providing funding for theses coaches through the SASSOT Coach Scholarship Scheme, and the club are extremely grateful for the contribution of £1210.00 towards the costs of coaching courses. The focus of this funding is to train level 1 and 2 coaches, however level 3 coaches can be supported where the applicant organisation can provide clear evidence of need.

 

The club has raised awareness of volunteers on a local, county regional and national level, providing volunteers at local tournaments, as well as coaches and umpires for county and regional talent days. All of these attributes are why Newcastle Town Netball Club is so deserving of this award.

Having won the West Midlands Netball Nextgen award, Newcastle Town Netball Club, go forward to the national final (one of only 4 clubs put forward for this award) on September 19^th at the England Netball awards evening.
