Olympic Job for Hannah
Eighteen-year-old dancer Hannah Corbett from Burntwood is celebrating after securing a top job with the London 2012Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) as part of their `Get Ahead’ school leavers’ employment programme.
The `Get Ahead’ programme is targeted at 16 to18 year olds and will see Hannah who has recently left Chase Terrace Technology College in Burntwood join nine other young people from across the UK to take up a position with LOCOG.
Following Hannah’s enthusiasm and outstanding work as a Young Ambassador for the Burntwood and Lichfield School Sport Partnership and running a workshop at the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent 2012 Conference earlier this year, Hannah was informed about the `Get Ahead’ programme by Chris Kirkland, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s 2012 Co-ordinator.
Hannah has worked tirelessly to inspire young people to be more healthy and active in her role as ambassador within her local school community. She was inspired to organise a `Mini Olympic Games’ event at her school after having attended an earlier Youth Sport Trust conference in 2007 where she met Olympic champions and learnt more about her role as a young ambassador.

The event involved 190 Year 5 students from five feeder schools within the Burntwood and Lichfield School Sport Partnership and was aimed at encouraging everyone to take part in, enjoy and be a winner in sport.
The day incorporated a wide range of activities which were not normal Olympic Games events, in order that every child would learn a different skill and excel in at least one, for example physical, cognitive and coordination skills.
County Councillor Ben Adams, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture said: “Well done Hannah. Hannah is a shining example of a young ambassador and has demonstrated some excellent skills and leadership qualities which will help her in her new role. I wish her all the very best of luck for the future."
Hannah Corbett said: “My role as a young ambassador has opened so many doors for me and given me many chances in life; I would really recommend young people to get involved and embrace all opportunities that schools can give you.... it’s worked for me and I can’t wait to start my new life in London. See you in 2012!”
Assistant Headteacher at Chase Technology College, Tim Dowling added: “For a good many years Hannah has been an outstanding ambassador both for the school in the broadest sense for sport, dance and fitness. We are thrilled for her and the recognition and status are both well deserved.”
Hannah has recently returned from a music tour in Germany and France where she performed a dance at three concerts for the local communities there.
Hannah will take up her new position in September.
