On 16 September 2009 the world's best cyclists will be lining up in Stoke-on-Trent for the start of the fifth stage of The Tour of Britain, which will also be finishing in Stoke-on-Trent. It's going to be a great day for the Stoke-on-Trent stage, and we're looking forward to seeing as many people as possible join us along the route to cheer the riders on there way.

More detailed background

Stoke-on-Trent will again see the excitement of professional cycle racing in the city this September when the Tour of Britain returns.

After last year’s successful finish stage, attracting thousands of people to the city centre, this year’s event promises to be even bigger with the start and finish of the West Midlands stage taking place in the city.

Starting at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium on Wednesday 16 September, cyclists from 16 world famous teams including teams Team Garmin-Slipstream, the team of Bradley Wiggins, Team Columbia-HTC, the team of Mark Cavendish and locally sponsored team Pinarello CandiTV Marshalls Pasta, the team of Malcolm Elliott will start the 134 km course, taking in the North Staffordshire countryside before finishing outside the Town Hall in the city centre, the scene of last years exciting last-gasp victory by Edvald Boasson Hagen.

Visitors and residents alike are being encouraged to come to Britannia Stadium for the 10.30am start or watch the  finish in the city centre at approximately 1.45pm.  If you can't make the start or the finish why not support the riders on the rest of the 134 km route that takes in some fantastic scenery throughout Staffordshire.

Tour Ride

This year, The Prostate Cancer Charity and The Tour of Britain, the UK’s premier professional cycling race, have joined forces to create a new and exciting public cycling event for cyclists of all ages and abilities!

For the first time ever, amateur cyclists can ride an actual stage of The Tour of Britain in The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride in Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday 6th September 2009.

With three distances to choose from, we’re inviting cyclists of all abilities to get on their bikes and raise money to help fight prostate cancer.

Amateurs can choose to test their endurance on the full 145km professional course, challenge themselves and their friends over 70km, or take the kids on a 20km tour, all at The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride in
Stoke-on-Trent on 6th September.

This is a great opportunity to encourage your workforce to keep healthy, so if you think your staff, or customers would be interested in the challenge, we would love to hear from you.
