Sport England Update
2010 London Youth Games a
record-breaking success
The Olympic spirit has burst into life in the capital as a record number of young Londoners competed in the 2010 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.
Sport England invested £1m in the Games and for the first time ever, over 50,000 youngsters took part making 2010 the biggest in the competition’s 33-year history.
A ping-pong extravaganza at London’s St Pancras station launched this summer’s table tennis festival, Ping! London, in style last week.
Funded by Sport England, Ping! London is giving thousands of Londoners the chance to play impromptu games for free on 100 tables across the capital between now and the end of August. It will then travel to four other cities before returning to London for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in two years time.
Efficiency boost for public sector sports planners
Sport England has announced the creation of a new, simple to use, system to help organisations involved in sport improve the way they plan facilities provision and drive efficiency savings.
We’ve set up five groups of approved suppliers - made up of companies specialising in town planning, needs analysis and playing fields – so that our partners can manage procurements quickly and efficiently, whilst benefiting from reduced rates secured by competitive tendering.
Consultation on how National Lottery funding
can support competitive school sport
Sport England is seeking views on how best Lottery funding might support the new Olympic and Paralympic style school sports competition announced by the Government.
We’d like to hear what you like or dislike about the plans, if you think additional areas need to be developed and what impact you think the proposals will have. The consultation runs until Friday 15 October 2010.
