Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

Special Needs Football Club

Cannock Council’s Sports Development Team have worked closely with a number of partners to help set up a Special Needs Football Club at the Chase Leisure Centre.

Open to young people (8-16 years) with Special Needs, members are attracted from the district’s two Special Schools and mainstream education.  The club was recently launched with an open day at the Chase Leisure Centre, where a coaching session was put on.  While students at Hednesford Valley High School were asked to come up with some design ideas for a new strip.

Funding has been received from the Community and Learning Partnership and SASSOT's Access ACROSS Staffordshire fund. This has been used to help support the purchase of equipment, hire of facilities and coach development.

A grant of £500 towards the cost of coaching the young people at the club was awarded from SASSOT's Access ACROSS Staffordshire fund.

Closing date for applications is 4 February 2008.
