Sport in the future & floor target action planning
Sport in the future – focus on Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent
The City is currently in the process of developing a new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for 2008 – 2016. As part of this work, the City Council and its key partners have undertaken an extensive amount of consultation with local communities, sports clubs and key organisations across the area.
In support of the City’s objective to increase participation levels in physical activity, a meeting was held between Joan Walley MP, Port Vale Football Club and Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to discuss plans and aspirations for developing sport and recreation in Burslem.

Port Vale Football Club, which already hosts some excellent sports and social facilities, is working with local partners to explore opportunities for developing community recreation.
Further details, about these plans and other key developments for sport's facilities in the City, will be available in early 2008 when it proposed that the new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy will be completed.
Floor Target Action Planning for Physical Activity in Stoke-on-Trent
Working with the PCT and Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, the City is in the process of developing a Floor Target Action Plan with the aim of increasing participation levels in physical activity across the area.
So far, two physical activity consultation workshops have been held by the City Council and Stoke PCT, both of which have been very well attended by local organisations and key partners.
The City has set a challenging target - by 2012, Stoke-on-Trent will have an adult physical activity participation rate of at least 30%. Participation will be measured by assessing how many adults participate in Health Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) and are achieving the Chief Medical Officer's Guidelines of at least 30 minutes a day of moderate intensity physical activity on 5 or more days of the week.
There has been a huge amount of enthusiasm shown so far by all those involved in this exciting and very innovative project. It is proposed that this work will completed by March 2008.
