Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

Stafford 5-Alive Activity Project

Stafford Borough Council have had great success with their 5-Alive project that they are running in conjunction with The Children’s Fund.  The project offers children a chance to access a variety of activities and sports to encourage them to take part in physical activity.  Many of the children involved in the project do not usually participate in sport.

Stafford Borough Council in partnership with the Children’s Fund have been running a project called 5-Alive.  The aim is to promote sport and physical activity which is being delivered through activities such as Brazilian football, dancing and bouncy castles.

There are five schools involved in the project, which have been targeted as ones that can increase their physical activity levels.

In each school, 5-Alive focuses on a year group that do not have any extra curricular activities available to them. The children are given the opportunity to decide what activities they would like to do as suggestion boxes and notice boards are displayed in each of the schools.

There are currently around 80 children a week who regularly attend the 5-Alive sessions and many of these, are children who don’t usually participate in sport or physical activity.
