HSBC School's Rugby Festivals
On the 12th November, at Lichfield RUFC, 15 schools from Staffordshire took part in the HSBC Year 8 Rugby Festival with Weston Road School, Stafford crowned Champions and 16 teams from the County took part in the Year 9 Festival, with Barr Beacon School running out winners.
The HSBC School Rugby Festivals are aimed at grass roots rugby, they form a clear pathway enabling greater success for non established schools to play more regular appropriate competitions.
Staffordshire staged their Year 8 and 9 Competitions at Lichfield RUFC with 15 schools taking part in the Year 8 festival from across the County, all schools played their pool games with the top 4 teams progressing to the semi finals which saw Walton Priory lose 2-1 to Weston Road and St Edward's Middle School beat King Edward's, Stafford 2 -1. In the final, after some tremendous rugby, Weston Road were
crowned winners defeating St Edward's Middle School 3- 0.
In the Year 9 competition, 16 teams contested the title; after some hard fought pool games the semi finals saw Weston Road lose 2-1 to Walton High School and Barr Beacon comfortably beat Kingmead Technical College 5 - 1. The final was a tense affair which saw Barr Beacon come out 2 - 0 Winners against Walton High.
All winners will progress to the HSBC Regional Festival on the 26th March 2009.
