Work has started on building a new watersports facility
Work has started on building a new watersports facility at Trentham that is due to be completed in early March. The £350k building, within the Trentham Estate, will be home to Trentham Watersports Association and includes Trentham Boat Club, Trentham Canoe Club and Eccleshall Scouts. The building has been principally funded from two Sport England programmes, the Community Club Development Programme, a Government funded
programme, and the Community Investment Fund, the National Lottery fund for sport. Other funding was provided by the Staffordshire Environmental Fund and Eccleshall Scouts, as well as other fundraising activities.
The community facility will be located at the south end of Trentham Lake and will comprise of increased boat storage for canoes, kayaks and rowing boats, as well as changing and meeting rooms. The TWA are still seeking grants and sponsorship to fit out the interior of the boathouse for such things as specialist racking, floating pontoons, and teaching aids.
Already over 1000 participants a year benefit from the club’s current facilities and with the new building, the clubs hope to build on their success, retaining many of the people that come to try canoeing and rowing as regular members.
