County Sports Partnership Update

 

Active People Survey 5 Results 

 

Last week Sport England published the full year result for Active People Survey 5.  Active People Survey 5 (20010/11) began on 15 October 2010 and was completed on 14 October 2011.  Below are some of the National headline results.

 

 

National Highlights:

During the period October 2010 to October 2011, 6.927 million adults (aged 16 and over) participated in sport three times a week for 30 minutes at moderate intensity;

• 14.759 million adults (aged 16 and over) participated in sport at least once a week for 30 minutes at moderate intensity during the period October 2010 to October 2011;
• Comparison of the 2007/8 (Active People Survey 2) and the latest results to October 2011 (Active People Survey 5), shows four sports (athletics, boxing, table tennis and mountaineering) have seen a statistically significant increase in participation rates.
• The results show a  fall in the number of young people aged between 16 and 19 playing sport– with drops in this age range in major sports including football, tennis and swimming. Across the rest of the adult population, the number of people playing sport is increasing.
• The results also show an increase in participation among disabled people and among men since 2007/8, but a decrease in the number of women playing sport. 

Staffordshire results against the NI8 participation in 3 x 30 minutes of sport and active recreation target show that 5 local authorities witnessed a positive direction in travel.  Staffordshire has also witnessed a positive increase in volunteering levels with 8 local authorities achieving a positive direction of travel. 

 

Staffordshire results against the ‘One Million’ sports participation show that one local authority witnessed a positive direction of travel.

SASSOT Club Accreditation funding
3rd round open!

 

Does your sports club need funding to achieve Clubmark?

The aim of SASSOT’s Sports Club Accreditation funding to increase the number of sports clubs being accredited or re-accredited with Clubmark/NGB accreditation and which can also be used for clubs to achieve a higher level of their current accreditation if appropriate.

 

SASSOT have amalgamated their Club Accreditation and Coach Scholarships funding into a single application process. Up to £600 of funding is now available to sports clubs who require financial assistance to achieve and pass their accreditation criteria and which now includes funding for coach qualifications. All sports clubs benefiting from the funding must be based within Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to qualify and commit to achieving accreditation within 9 months.

 

Round 2 has just been completed and the following 5 clubs were awarded funding; 

• Chase District Netball club £387
• Checkley CC £575
• Cottage Farm Rangers FC £397.50
• Olympia Cannock Handball £600
• Wyrley Juniors FC £600

These are some of the eligible costs that have been funded and identified by the above clubs as a requirement for them to attain accreditation;

 

Level 1 & 2 Coaching qualifications / First Aid kits / Junior Welcome packs / Safeguarding and Protecting Children and First Aid workshops / CRB checks / Coach NGB membership.

Discounted Price Available for Swimming Helper Qualification

 

You can now access the ASA qualification for only £3.85!

 

Young people and volunteers will now find a new Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) qualification to assist on poolside more accessible. 

 

The cost of the qualification has been reduced from £11.50 to £3.85. The qualification consists of three hours in the classroom and three hours practical work so that helpers can practice what they have learnt.

Aiming High: Disability Sport and Physical Activity

 

Disabilit-e News provides information about what is happening within the county, nationally and in the elite world of disability sport. It will also advertises courses, clubs, events and success stories to motivate and inspire.There is also a dedicated section on Aiming High and the good work it is doing to promote activity based short breaks for disabled children and families.  

 

 

This publication will be produced twice a month and you can see previous editions and subscribe to receive Disabilit-e News directly on a page of SASSOT's website.
