Sports Partnership Counting On Action |
Key representatives intent on creating more healthy, active and successful communities in our region met at the Sport Across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent 'Counting on Action Conference' on the 5th February. Thank you to all those of you who attented the conference event, we have recieved some excellent feedback that is in the process of being collated and will be made available shortly. The partnership also plans to organise follow up workshops to allow for more detailed discussion and feedback to take place. The event, which focused on the local results of Sport England’s recent Active People Survey and the development of initiatives to improve the area’s participation in sport and active recreation, was attended by over 70 guests including officers from various National Governing Bodies of sport, Primary Care Trusts, local authorities and education.
“It was encouraging that our event was attended by so many high profile guests who really can make a difference to increasing the levels of participation across our region” said Mark Thornewill, Partnership Director “The feedback from the workshop sessions was very positive and we hope that all who attended benefited and have taken away the necessary information to help make a positive impact.”
The conference, which featured keynote speakers Sandra Roden and Phil Fellows from Sport England West Midlands, was held at Staffordshire University’s state-of-the-art Television Centre and was filmed by media students with the intention of making segments of the event available as pod casts via Sport Across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent’s website.
The day also saw the Sport Across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Partnership receive The Equality Standard – A Framework for Sport Accreditation, which provides a framework for widening access and increasing the involvement in sport and physical activity from under represented individuals, groups and communities, especially women and girls, ethnic minority groups and disabled people. “The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent County Sports Partnership is committed to working proactively to ensure access to sport across the County for anyone, regardless of individual circumstance or background” commented Executive Board Chair, Laurence O’Neill.
