Stafford Sports Awards 2007

The 2007 Stafford Borough Sports Awards were held on Wednesday 7th February in the state of the art television centre at Staffordshire University.  The evening, postponed from its original date of 18th January due to damage sustained to the building during strong winds that week, was organised in partnership with Staffordshire University, Staffordshire Newsletter, Sport Stafford Borough and the Sports Development Team from the Borough Council Leisure Services, and was a fantastic celebration of sporting achievements within the area.

Word Cup 2006 participant and local Footballing star, Chris Birchall, was the guest of honour at the ceremony and he presented the prizes to the winners and nominees.  Individuals and teams were rewarded for their sporting successes in 2006 in a variety of categories covering a number of sports.

Nominations for the evening were invited up until November last year when a panel of judges met to produce a shortlist for each award.  The top three in each category were invited to attend the ceremony, along with their friends and family where the winner was announced and video footage was shown to demonstrate the winner in action.

Stafford Rangers Football Club were presented with a special award in recognition of their achievements over the past twelve months.  The Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Mike Shone presented this award to the Stafford Rangers Chairman Jon Downing.
