Stoke YMCA Targets Widened Access

Key projects and state-of the-art facilities at Stoke YMCA are helping to make a real impact on widening access to sport and active recreation for disadvantaged local young people.

The £400,000 facilities were funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Sport England as part of their Active England funding, and make up the local element of the YMCA Activate England campaign which aims to involve more than 24,000 people who would not normally take exercise.

The centre features a health and fitness suite, a squash court, astro-turf cricket and 5-a-side football areas and a multi-use sports hall.

“We are doing as much as we can to make the facilities as widely available to all members of our local community” said Ade Tilstone, sports Manager “We provide specialist equipment for disabled use, ladies only sessions and targeted initiatives for the local ethnic community. We have an Asian Women’s initiative which now boasts over 30 members and our Medimotion bike is a fantastic addition to our facilities, providing passive and active exercise for disabled people.”
