South Staffordshire Sailing Club finalists in RYA Club of the Year

South Staffordshire Sailing Club is celebrating being nominated as one of five finalists in the prestigious Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Club of the Year Awards.

The Club, that received a Community Investment Fund award to develop a new clubhouse with training facilities and facilities for disabled sailing, has been listed by RYA as one of the top 5 clubs in the country for 2008. The RYA award to the top club for 2008 will be made at a finalists’ lunch at Alexandra Palace on March 1st where the winner will be announced.

Rod Carr, Chief Executive of the Royal Yachting Association commented “Well done on achieving this prestigious award. The continued success of our sport is reliant upon clubs such as South Staffordshire Sailing Club maintaining these high standards and continuing to demonstrate best practice.”

The Club offers competitive restricted class racing for both the experienced and not so experienced sailor, coupled with an active training programme throughout the year.

They are recognised as a Volvo Champion Club and as such a full training programme for junior members. Adult training is available for both members and non-members.

Fingers crossed for South Staffordshire Sailing Club and congratulations to them in being amongst the top 5 – not bad for a club in a landlocked region! Keep an eye on SASSOT’s March newsletter for news of how the club gets on at the finals in London.
