County Sports Partnership Update

 

Clubmark and SASSOT's QualityMark presentations at the Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent 2012 Conference

 

Four cricket clubs were awarded their Clubmark accrediation certificates and a S&H Kickboxing received the first ever SASSOT QualityMark certificate by Simon Dickie, Executive Board Member and Club Development Champion, at the 2012 Conference on 26 February.

 

The cricket clubs were: Audley CC, Burslem CC, Silverdale CC and Wood Lane CC.

 

Clubmark is the nationally recognised award for high quality clubs who can show they meet exacting operating standards. The SASSOT QualityMark uses the same standards as ClubMark.

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent has successfully been awarded a further £248,000 by Sport England for the delivery of Year 2 of the Sport Unlimited programme. The award is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the CSP, Local Authorities and School Sports Partnerships in developing a delivery plan for 2009 - 2010 that offers an exciting range of new sports activities to 5-19 year olds across the sub-region.

 

Building on the successes and lessons learned from Year 1 of the Sport Unlimited programme, the new plan focuses on providing a range of alternative sporting activities such as climbing, BMX, cheerleading and many other sports that will hopefully attract young people from a range of ability and interest levels.

Sport Unlimited is a three-year government funded initiative aimed at providing 900,000 of young people with an additional 1 hour of sport a week. The programme is an integral part of the DCSF PE and Sport Strategy that is focused on getting every child in England to participate in five hours of PE and sport every week.

Sub-Regional Sports Facilities Framework

 

This important piece of work is now nearing completion and the final report will be produced in the near future.

 

The wide-ranging consultation exercise came to a close recently and we would like to thank the many organisations and individuals who commented on the draft Framework.

 

The Sports Facilities Framework will help providers develop future plans to improve sports facilities across the sub-region in the future.

Five Equity Projects Successfull Awarded Funding

 

Through the fifth round of the ACCESS Across Staffordshire Fund, SASSOT is pleased to announce that FIVE projects have successfully been awarded.  Each of the projects have identified how they are going to increase participation by under-represented groups including people with disabilities, local BME communities, girls & women.

 

The projects that were awarded by the Equality & Diversity panel included:

• Stafford Town Football Club - Disability Project
• Staffordshire Cricket - Girls' & Women's Project
• Hope Community Centre (Stoke-on-Trent) - BME Project
• British Canoe Union - Girls' & Women's Project
• Staffordshire FA - Girls' & Women's Project

 

All of these projects will be initiated over the forth coming months and their progress will be reported on the SASSOT website.

Community Sport and Physical Activity Networks (CSPANs)

 

Here’s a quick up-date from the desk of the Active Recreation Manager at SASSOT.  I started in post just before Christmas and after the break for the seasonal holidays I didn’t get to see much of my desk as I was out and about around the county making contacts and meeting the people who help to plan, co-ordinate and deliver sport and physical activities in their local areas. 

 

Part of my role involves supporting the Community Sport and Physical Activity Networks (CSPANs) – each district and borough has their own CSPAN, though they come under a variety of names; some are known as Community Sport Networks, some are referred to as Community Sport and Physical Activity Networks, the Staffordshire Moorlands’ group is a CAN (Community Activity Network), Stoke-on-Trent has a Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, and East Staffordshire are known as East Staffs United. 

 

CSPANs have been developed to ensure that there is “joined up thinking” between local stakeholders who are drawn from the public, private and voluntary sectors, who are involved in the delivery and organisation of sport and physical activities for the whole community.

Sporting Champions Update

 

Please see the message below from Sporting Champions.

 

Dear all As you  are no doubt aware, we have fulfilled our criteria of Sporting Champions visits for the period up to 31st March 2009. We now have a significant waiting list should any events fall through during this period, and therefore not to falsely raise hopes of a Champion appearance we will now not be processing or holding any more visits submitted.

 

With regards to the future of Sporting Champions, the scheme is currently undergoing a re-procurement process, and we are aware that there will be a shift in focus of the scheme to align with the new Sport England agenda. We are therefore also not taking nominations for visits from April 1^st onwards. As soon as there is clear communication with regards to the future look and feel of the scheme we will communicate out to you again.

For those organisations that have been nominated, or have expressed an interest in receiving a visit after the 1^st April will be contacted and advised of the above.

Again we would like to thank you for your hard work in making the scheme the success it has been over the past few years.
