South Staffordshire sportshall athletics begins with success
The introduction of Sportshall Athletics Competitions in South Staffordshire has begun with a huge amount of success. 380 children took part in preliminary competitions during November and December, that qualifiied them for the County based competition. Codsall Middle School represented the district in both Year 5/6 and 7/8 with the younger age group being crowned County champions and the older age
group achievinga very respectable 3rdplace at Fenton Manor.
This was the first time South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership had entered the school based Sportshall Athletics Competition. The Partnership piloted the work with the district's 5 middle schools, competing in local events at Codsall and Penkridge Leisure Centres before qualifying for a district final held at Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre in January.
Additionally, as part of the Leadership Academy, 25 Leaders across the Partnership received Sportshall Athletics training and assisted with the various competitions and a further 25 Young Leaders, who had not received the training, also assisted and were integral to the smooth running of the events.
Nick Richards, Competition Manager for South Staffordshire/Stafford and Stone, commented on how well the schools in the Partnership had taken to sportshall and that plans are now in place to extend the competition to all of the district's schools.
Thanks go to all the members of staff and children who contributed to these events.
