Top Activity was launched in 2005 and is a programme of ‘alternative’ sport and physical activities designed for use in the informal out-of-hours club setting. It has been developed by the Youth Sport Trust, though the support of Sainsbury’s Active Kids and appeals to those young people aged 7-13 who may not currently access sport and recreational activities through the more traditional routes.

This was the first year that Sainsbury's and the Youth Sport Trust have held the awards event and the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership beat off many competitors to claim victory in the “Families” category. The winning position sees the partnership receive 10,000 Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers, 5 Top Activity bags and half a day’s training at a PGL Centre.

Steve Glover, Assistant Partnership Development Manager for Stafford and Stone, was delighted with the award. “We are so proud to receive this accolade but acknowledge it is an award that has come from strong partnership work involving schools, Staffordshire County Council, our relationship with the Primary Care Trust and other key agencies. I have been privileged to see pupils take part in Top Activity
programmes through MEND and Active Plus and continue on with confidence to join new sporting clubs.”
