Netball Coaching Workshop in Staffordshire

Staffordshire is hosting its first England Netball Excel Coaching workshop.

Activate: Essential Attacking Skills for Netball is for coaches or teachers who have a good knowledge of the sport and will build on practices that can be taken away and applied in training sessions.

Date: Thursday 10^th March 2011

Time: 19.00-22.00

Venue: Stafford Sports College, ST17 9DJ

 

Course Summary:

This course will examine the qualities of an attacking player and will explore the methods a player can utilise to get free. The workshop will apply the Games for Understanding approach and review how a meaningful games experience can be embedded in the coaching session. Coaches will be introduced to the principles of attacking play and will observe and analyse performance in relation to these in the workshop. The coach will be equipped with the skills to plan practices which are in a games context and will recognise the value of placing conditions on games to improve the practice. The workshop will address set ups, first and second phase options in a range of game situations. The cues an attacker should attend and respond to will be a feature of the workshop with a particular emphasis on the centre pass.

 

Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop a coach should be able to: 

• Explain the qualities of an attacking player
• Observe and analyse an individual’s performance in relation to the principles of attacking play
• Explain how meaningful games experiences are key to learning as part of the Games for Understanding approach
• Design practices in a conditioned game context
• Describe the various set ups, first and second phase options in a range of game situations

The course is open to all club coaches and teachers who regularly plan and deliver netball sessions.

 

NB: This course involves coaches actively developing practices themselves and may not be suitable for less experienced candidates.

NEW! Back to Netball at Beaconside, Stafford

Due to the successful 10 weeks project funded by South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust, the Back to Netball at Beaconside Sports Centre will continue to be delivered in conjunction with Stafford Netball Club.   WHAT IS BACK TO NETBALL? Back to Netball provides a gentle introduction to the sport for female players over sixteen years of age. Sessions are coach led and cover basic skill development and court play. The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing Netball with friends.

Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about getting active again, these sessions cater for all abilities.

Get fit, have fun and make friends through Back to Netball. 

 

 

There will be Back to Netball sessions on the following dates from 2.00-3.00pm at Beaconside Sports Centre, ST18 0AD: 

• 6th March
• 13th March
• 20th March
• 27th March
• 3rd April
• 8th May
• 15th May
• 22nd May

There will be no sessions during school half terms.

England Netball's Annual Goalden Globes Awards 2011-
Nominations now open!

The Goalden Globe Awards are the pinnacle of England Netball's recognition of voluntary effort and excellence. Each of the ten categories recognises different areas of achievement and anyone actively involved in netball can nominate or be nominated for the awards.

The Categories are...

Coach Award is presented to a coach who has made an outstanding contribution to their club/organisation and progression of netball athletes.

Grassroots Coach Award is presented to a volunteer coach who has made an outstanding contribution to getting more people engaging, growing and staying in netball through high quality coaching.

Inclusive Netball Volunteer is presented to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball which is inclusive to minority groups e.g. disabled people, disadvantaged communities, men and boys or people from black and minority ethnic populations.

Mary Bulloch Administrator Award is presented to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball at any level by way of administration.

Muriel McNally Award is presented to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball at grassroots level for 10 years or more.

Netball Teacher Award is presented to a teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball in primary and / or secondary school, outside of their statutory teaching responsibilities.

Officials Award is presented to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to officiating in netball.

Outstanding Netball Club Award is presented to a netball club which has made an outstanding contribution within their community.

Rose Award is presented to a volunteer or organisation that has made a notable contribution to netball in any capacity which may encompass any aspect of the game and its administration.

Young Netball Volunteer Award is presented to a young person who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball through volunteering.
