Whittington In Line For Big NatWest CricketForce Weekend
Across Staffordshire and nationally eyes will be trained on the small village of Whittington on Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th March, as the ambitious Staffordshire NatWest CricketForce showcase project for the county kicks off this year’s events.
With a superb project expertly managed by Richard Abel, Whittington are looking for more help from all.
The project started with an idea about 10 years ago for the club to own its own ground to save playing on the recreational facilities currently used in the village. With a host of support locally and from a significant ECB gesture, Whittington eventually raised the £150k needed to purchase and landscape a new venture adjoining their current facilities.
The work and maturation process took until the end of summer 2010 with the groundsman advised that the club would be likely to be playing on their new facility in summer 2011.
NOW FOR THE HARD WORK !!!!! A NEW PAVILLION WAS NEEDED
Richard Abel has stepped up the pace with his work on this one. The club decided to apply for the Staffordshire NatWest CricketForce showcase club and from there the project has gained pace and direction. The community meeting held during January was attended by over 100 club supporters and interested parties as ECB Club Programmes Manager Dave Leighton and Staffordshire Cricket Development Manager Jason Britton, told the gathering about the benefits of this massive opportunity for the club.
Richard Abel and his committee have since done a wonderful job gaining over £100k of in-kind help. Here’s to a wonderful weekend on March 19th and 20th.
