Rawlett Community Sports College proudly accepts keys for new facilities
Rawlett Community Sports College proudly accepted the keys for a fantastic new FA Approved, full sized all weather pitch and changing rooms from contractors Roksol, who have been working on the project since August 2008.
The new facilities are now ready for use by both the school and the local community and footballers, in and around Tamworth, can be assured of a first-class facility.
The new facility is as a result of work which began with the school gaining specialist sports status in 2005. £50,000 had to be raised by the school which was matched by £100,000 from the Government.Tamworth Rotary Club gave the school £10,000 and the school raised £26,000 itself through a student /staff sponsorship event. The remainder came from the
Rawlett/QEMS trust fund and smaller contributions from other organisations.

The successful bid to the Football Foundation included a business plan and a comprehensive development plan which secured the support of £625,932 (68%) towards the total project cost. The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities
throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, the Football Association and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £40m budget going straight into the heart of football.
Support of £25,000 was also gained from the Staffordshire Environmental Fund.
Mrs Jones , Director of Sport at Rawlett, said “It has been a long process, but now we can be proud of the fantastic opportunity and experience we are able to offer to both students and members of the local community.”
Already, bookings have been flooding in but there are still slots available. Mr Mike Lawson, Leisure Centre Manager, explained “There are three pitches available for bookings and we are delighted that the community are already making use of the new facilities. We have some evening slots free, but more importantly, we want to offer people the chance to try it out for themselves. So, we
are offering a special ‘come and try it’ price of only £12.50 during the weekends until the end of March. People have been saying to us that they think the pitches are amazing. It’s fantastic to get such positive feedback!”
For more information regarding booking the pitches, please ring Rawlett Community Leisure Centre on 01827 55411, where the staff will be pleased to help.
