Virtual skipping success in East Staffordshire
An inaugural 'Virtual Skipping' competition took place in East Staffordshire following the success of two skipping festivals. Thirteen teams, 78 young people, years 3-5 from schools across the partnership competed in three individual, two pair and two group skipping disciplines at their own schools.
All the results were collated and the top teams from three different schools came together to compete in a live final at Abbot Beyne High School in Burton on the 14th January.
Winshill Primary School came out victorious, after a breath taking final with the three teams completing well over 2,000 skips each. The second and third places were only separated after a count back of skips, with William Shrewsbury Primary School just gaining second place from Tower View Primary.
The live final was the perfect show case for the virtual skipping competition in which 13 teams participated in school playgrounds across East Staffordshire during late November. The help of Active Playground Co-ordinators, Young Leaders and Teachers who braved the cold to score the teams, was invaluable to the success of the competition.

The virtual competition gave the chance for 78 young people to compete that may not have had the opportunity due to transport issues and venue capacity. Therefore eliminating these issues gave the schools the chance to have the flexibility to compete in their own time, and at their own venue enabled it to be open to more young people.
Special thanks go to School Sport Co-ordinator, Duncan Stewart and Skip-Hop Ltd, who put a lot of effort into organising the skipping festivals and virtual skipping live final which enabled the virtual skipping competition to run so successfully.
