Disabled youngsters 'Aiming High'
East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development Team in partnership with the Able Too Forum have been commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to organise a sports and physical activity event as part of the Staffordshire Aiming High for Disabled Children, Young People and their Families programme.
The date of the event is Sunday 21st February 2010, commencing at 10.00am until 3.00pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex, Burton on Trent and includes lunch for all participants.
Places for the event MUST be booked in advance and will be issued on a first come first served basis.
The event is an opportunity for people working on the Aiming High programme to talk to parents and gather their views on services whilst parents and children also take part in fun activities. Children and their parents will have the opportunity to participate in various sporting activities, to learn new skills, improve their social skills, make new friends and have fun.
The day will include activities such as Football, Boccia, Karate, Badminton, Zone Hockey, Basketball, Table Top games, Bowls, New Age Kurling, Goalball and Aerobics. The games are aimed at people with disabilities aged under 18 years old.
*Neil Brown, Sports Development officer said: “We are proud to be able to organise such an event on behalf of Staffordshire County Council. This project enhances our existing disability sport provision and again provides an excellent opportunity for young people with disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity. We also will provide participants with information of our ability clubs, in hope they continue participating outside of this
event.”
