Jo Nets scUK Coaching Award

Jo Barnett has been crowned netball coach of the year for her work teaching youngsters the game.

Jo, Stafford Borough Council’s Community Sports Netball Coach has been awarded the West Midlands Community Sports Coach of the Year for her hard work.

During the two years she has been in the part-time role Jo has worked closely with the School Sports Partnership to coach more than 800 young people.

She has also organised a ‘High Fives’ tournament for local primary schools in the area, as well as established a new Netball club. Jo has played a large role in the creation of the new club as there were previously no formal Netball Clubs within the Borough.  Jo has worked tirelessly to set this up from scratch and has helped develop junior teams as well as recruit volunteers.

Katherine Fenn from the Sports Development Team at the Borough Council, who nominated Jo said “Jo has excelled in her role and has made sure netball is being played by hundreds of youngsters across the borough."

“Even when she is not working she has regularly helped out at matches and tournaments and it is great to see that her dedication has been officially recognised with this award.”

Jo is pictured receiving her award from Mark Thornewill, Director, Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
