New vinvolved teams in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent

So who are v?

v is a national charity that encourages more young people from across England to volunteer.

In Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent we want to inspire more young people aged 16-25 years to volunteer and promote what positive contributions they are already making in their local communities. It is our aim to make volunteering more accessible to young people so that everyone has the opportunity to get involved.

We currently have Youth Volunteer Advisers who work in the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area. These advisers work with a local youth action team, which consists of young people who are currently involved in volunteering. The youth action team works alongside the youth volunteer adviser to promote and help deliver volunteering that is fun and relevant to young people.

We are keen to work with local organisations to increase the diversity of volunteering opportunities and raise awareness of the benefits of volunteering to both the organisation and the volunteers.

Our aims:

  1. Creating and sustaining a diverse range of volunteering opportunities within Staffordshire.
  2. Placing young people into opportunities that they have an interest, care or passion for.
  3. Accrediting young people with nationally recognised v awards and alternative accreditation such as Youth Achievement Awards.

Are you 16—25 years of age?

  • Interested in making a positive impact on your career and your local community?
  • Would you like to boost your CV with valuable experience, training and accreditation?

If you have answered yes to the above then why not sign up to v, the new national youth volunteering programme?

What are the v awards?

The v awards give the opportunity for the young person to be recognised for the volunteering they are taking part in as well as highlighting some of the skills they have learnt during their volunteering experience.

The v thank you award is an opportunity to recognise young people who volunteer and celebrate the successes they have had through volunteering.

The Staffordshire vinvolved team in conjunction with Staffordshire Youth Service are offering a 15-hour award. This is completed by the young person after they have logged 15 hours in a voluntary opportunity.

The v50 award allows the young person to log the hours they have done in a volunteering placement. They also have the opportunity to reflect on the project and identify the impact they have had on their community.

In September 2008, once the young person has completed their v50 award, there will be an opportunity to progress on to the v Impact awards. The young person at this stage can choose which impact award they would like to apply for. The five different areas are passions, skills, community, campaigning and leadership.

So if you are aged between 16 and 25 and interested in volunteering, please contact us...
