Cannock Chase Council is pleased to announce the public opening weekend of Rugeley swimming pool on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2008. This project has been made possible by £500,000 National Lottery funding through Sport England's Community Investment Fund.

The Leisure Centre is a Dual Use Facility and was awarded the ‘Excellent’ badge by Quest when it scored 85% in May 2008.

On Saturday 26th July, they will be joined at the exciting occasion by the former European and Commonwealth Champion Swimmer Adam Whitehead, and by the Children and Young People Leader, Cllr Neil Stanley.

Adam Whitehead the former European and Commonwealth Champion Swimmer will be opening the pool along will Cllr Neil Stanley; then after offering some words of inspiration for fellow athletes and signing autographs; Mr Whitehead will be escorted on a tour of the leisure centre facilities.

Children and Young People Leader, Cllr Neil Stanley said; 'This will be a fabulous occasion for the whole family.  We are very proud to have the former European and Commonwealth Champion Adam Whitehead join us in opening the swimming pool.

Rugeley residents have waited a long time to get a swimming pool – not only have they got a state of the art six lane swimming pool, but a modern leisure centre, which has also been improved and extended during the development. These extra facilities will be beneficial for all ages, so please come along and enjoy!'

Cannock Chase District in partnership with South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust will be providing free swimming for all under 16's at both Chase and Rugeley Leisure Centres during the summer holidays.
