Schools go FA cup crazy

Rowley Park in Stafford was the venue for the annual E.ON National FA Cup Schools Day organised by Staffordshire Football Association. FA Charter Standard Schools from all over the County converged on Stafford to take part in the festival on Wednesday 18th June.

Around 300 boys & girls aged between 9 and 13 competed in the festival, which was themed around the most famous cup competition in the world.

The pitches for the event were all named after FA Cup semi-final and final venues, and an imitation Wembley Arch was also erected in the park. All of the schools who took part in the festival had been given a previous FA Cup winning club to research prior to the day, and themed their appearance at the festival around their chosen club.

Underneath ‘The Wembley Arch’ are St. Joseph’s Primary School from Rugeley who are pictured with their medals, pennants, posters and kits relating to their respective FA Cup winning club.

Every player who took part in the festival received a medal and a certificate from The FA’s education partner E.ON.

Football Development Officer, Gareth Thomas commented: “Despite the poor weather, all of the children really enjoyed the day and many of the schools had obviously put in a tremendous amount of work prior to the festival researching their chosen FA Cup winning Club.” He added: “The emphasis of the day was to have fun and to show what the power of football can do, not just on a pitch, but also educationally in the classroom too.”
