

International hockey players inspire Staffordshire pupils |

The event on Wednesday 1 July was organised by England Hockey, the School Sport Partnerships of Cannock and Rugeley, Burntwood and Lichfield and South Staffordshire, Cannock Hockey Club and Lichfield Hockey Club to celebrate the recent three match test series between Pakistan and England at Chase Park.
Pictured with pupils from St Chad’s Primary School, Lichfield and Gorsemoor Primary School, Heath Hayes are: (in no particular order) James Fair, Ben Hawes and Rob Moore - England Men’s Hockey team, Nisar Chaudary, Aamir Shahzad and Sajjad Anwar - Pakistan Men’s Hockey team.
Up to 20 teams of pupils enjoyed matches and challenges using the Quicksticks game which is designed to develop core skills. The England and Pakistan international players also took time out from training to meet the youngsters and share some of their hockey skills.

Organisers of the three match test series are hopeful that the Pakistan men’s Hockey team will return to Staffordshire for pre-games training for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

ENGLAND HOCKEY
LEVEL 1 VRQ COACHING ASSISTANT AWARD
The Level 1 Award is intended to provide the essential skills and knowledge necessary to run a safe and enjoyable session for players to be introduced to hockey. Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old to attend the course but should understand that they will not be permitted to coach independently. Level 1 coaches aged 18 and over can obtain insurance and practice in the role of Coaching Assistant alongside a fully qualified adult holding a Level 2 coach award or above.
